Can I just admit that I got a little giddy when I first thought about making a butterfly out of my Damask Designs stamps? I love that it's subtle enough that it looks like a butterfly first, but when you look closer you see the elegant damask pattern.
The butterfly was created with two different damask stamps stamped with Versamark and then embossed with clear sparkle embossing powder. I cut around the stamps, emphasizing the butterfly-ness (yes, I just made up a word!) of the shape. A few adhesive pearls made the perfect body for an elegant damask butterfly. Usually after heat embossing I put my item under a stack of paper to flatten it, but in this case it was perfect that the paper curled because the wings pop up off the card base.
For the background I used pearl acrylic paint on kraft cardstock. I masked off the rectangle with blue painter's tape and painted the border. Then I masked off the whole rectangle with printer paper and used the Polka Dot Basics II stamp with the acrylic stamp. I just brushed on an even layer with a foam brush and stamped. It gives a slightly uneven, imperfect result that looks softly distressed.
